Elvis Tribute Set For Bedrock Cafe
So, all this time you thought Elvis was pumping gas in Fort Meade.
Actually, he’s in Bartow. Well, not really Elvis, but someone who looks and sings a lot like him. Michael “Monk” Pellegrini in the professional showbiz world is known as Monk Pelly, a top-of-the-line Elvis tribute artist, also known as “The King of Elvis Tributes.” Monk, who owns Elite Detail and Window Tint, is a Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce member who performs as Elvis in his other life, and has done so for 29 years. And he is so good, he played the Polk Theatre as Elvis to mark the 30th anniversary of “The King’s” death.
As most of you recall, Elvis actually played at the Polk Theatre in 1956, and later played the Lakeland Center many times in the 70s. (Was that you who threw your unmentionables on the stage?)
Monk will be highlighted at a gathering to commemorate August 16, 1977, the day that Elvis died, so on Saturday, August 16, you can enjoy a special tribute to Elvis at Bartow’s Bedrock Café, 280 S. Wilson Avenue, at 8:00 p.m. Kelly and Glenn Giddens, owners of the restaurant and sports bar, said that those attending should reserve seats early by paying a $10 reservation fee – which includes a soft drink, well drink or draft beer of choice. The fee is a lot less than usual – the going rate for Monk Pelly to perform Elvis is normally $25 or more. Elvis fans should come in time to order dinner before the show begins. Special to the menu that night will be Elvis-inspired “Peanut Butter and Banana” sandwiches. For more information, or to reserve seating, contact Kelly Giddens at (863) 533-0681. | |
