School System - Polk County operates one school system that includes 107 campuses and five charter schools. Total enrollment (public schools - Pre-K-12) is more than 77,000, and the total full time instructional positions is over 4,825.

International Baccalaureate Program - In 1995, an exciting and challenging International Baccalaureate program, one of only 400 in the world, was established at Bartow Senior High School. Designed to meet the intellectual and academic needs of highly motivated 11th and 12th grade students and to promote international understanding, the rigorous IB curriculum stresses languages, sciences, mathematics, social sciences and electives, such as art or psychology. There is also a pre-IB program for ninth and tenth graders.

Career and Technical Centers - The Traviss Technical Center (nine miles northwest of Bartow) and Ridge Technical Center (twenty-five miles northeast) are part of the public school system of Polk County.

The primary purpose of the centers is to train students to earn a living, with more than 50 different programs offered. The schools service both high school students and adults through day and evening classes. Several private industrial, technical and trade schools are located in the area also.

Colleges and Universities - Polk Community College, located 15 miles northeast of Bartow, offers a two-year general educational program, leading to the selection of a major field of study at a higher institution. In addition, the program provides terminal vocational instruction in technical, industrial, and agricultural fields. Branch campuses of the University of South Florida and Polk Community College are located 9 miles northwest of Bartow. Polk County has eight four-year colleges to serve the needs of its high school graduates:
