Electric Power...The City of Bartow provides its own electrical services. The power is purchased from Florida Power and distributed through city owned lines. Power is provided through five substations.

Water...The new Bartow Water Treatment Plant on US Highway 17 North, pumps water (seven million gallons a day) from four deep wells (750 feet) which then flows through the lime softening process to remove hardness from the water. Hardness is what causes chalky stains on glasses, uses more soap, etc. After lime softening, the water is filtered through dual media (sand and anthracite) filters before disinfecting with chlorine. Prior to pumping the water to the distribution system a corrosion inhibitor is added to limit the corrosion of the pipes. The plant had an official "grand opening" celebration on July 24, 2002. Many folks enjoyed a tour of the plant facilities guided by our very able staff. The plant was designed and built to be able to grow as the needs of our citizens grow. The dream to build this wonderful plant began many years ago and has required a great deal of foresight, planning and hard work.

Monthly Rates...All monthly customer charges for residential and commercial are based on the size of the meter and the water bills are based on consumption.

Sanitation...Water Reclamation - Sanitary sewers service approximately 98 percent of the water customers. An advanced waste treatment plant with a system capacity of 4 million gallons per day is in operation. The correct daily usage is approximately 50 percent of capacity. Treatment is by extended aeration, filtration, and disinfection. Treated effluent is pumped 8.5 miles to the Florida Power plant where it is used for cooling water. By the year 2000, the effluent will be clean enough that plans are being made to irrigate the Bartow Golf Course with it. Sanitation Services...Collection services are provided by the city for most areas within the city. Some city neighborhoods and areas outside the city are served by private companies. Sanitation Service Rates...Monthly rate for collection inside the city: Residential - per family unit..... $18.50. All commercial establishments not supplied with container units with a capacity of two cubic yards or more: two pickups per week for each 30 gallon container or equivalent..... $19.25.
