Mary Ann Harrell presented the Church Service Center’s special task force members Reverend Ron Burks, First Baptist Church; and Jeff Clark, Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce; with money raised from Mosaic Four Corners.
Alan Tubbs, Bill Cole and Mike Elliott from Four Corners cooked sausage sandwiches and served them to Mosaic employees who gave donations for the Center, raising $460 in one morning.
The Church Service Center, a United Way Agency, has been a Bartow tradition for more than 43 years. It caught fire on October 28, destroying food and clothing meant for the needy. The Center’s focus is to meet the emergency needs of individuals on temporary basis with food, clothing, meals, household items, gas, utilities, rent, transportation and prescriptions. It usually serves 1,000-1,200 bag lunches each month to hungry people.
Church Service Center is operating temporarily out of First Baptist Church. Anyone wishing to donate canned food and non-perishable items may do so by bringing them to Fred’s Southern Kitchen, Spath Jewelers, BB&T Bank, Citizens Bank and Badcock Home Furniture & More – Bartow Store. Clothing, furniture and household items will not be accepted until after the first of the year. Monetary donations may be brought to the Greater Bartow Chamber of Commerce, or mail to the Church Service Center at 290 E. Church Street, Bartow, Florida 33830.
